What is Yom Kippur?

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is the most solemn day on the Jewish calendar. The Bible describes Yom Kippur as a day of affliction (Leviticus 16; 23:26-32). In the ancient world, the High Priest woke up early, donned his priestly garments, and sacrificed a bull for both himself and his family. He then cast lots over two goats, choosing one for the Lord and designating the other as the goat to remove sin. Only on this day did the High Priest enter into the Holy of Holies in the Temple to offer incense and sprinkle blood on the Ark of the Covenant. Before concluding the sacrifices by burning both the bull and the goat, the High Priest placed blood from the Lord’s goat onto the second goat. He then cast the second goat into the wilderness, thus symbolically removing Israel’s sin.

How is Yom Kippur observed today?

In modern observance, Yom Kippur involves a fast from both food and drink. Many spend the entire day praying in the synagogue. During the ten Days of Awe preceding Yom Kippur, many Jewish people pray and try to make amends with those with whom they may have had a misunderstanding during the previous year. During the Yom Kippur service, a prayer called “al chet” (all sin) is read, and then the congregation corporately acknowledges their wrongdoing and asks God for forgiveness. In modern observance, a special emphasis is given to “yiskor” (memory) in which Jewish people remember their departed loved ones by reciting their names. According to tradition, the Book of Life and the Book of the Dead are closed on Yom Kippur, and the fates of those within the books are sealed for the coming year.

Yom Kippur and redemption through the blood of the Messiah.

Followers of Jesus the Messiah confidently look forward to eternal life, because our names are written in the Book of Life. When Jesus died, the veil separating the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies was ripped in two, symbolically breaking a barrier between humans and the presence of God (Matthew 27:51). Previously, only the High Priest had access to this room, and he only entered it once a year on Yom Kippur. However, Jesus’ death gives believers access to God, because He entered into the heavenly Holy of Holies to offer His blood for our redemption (Hebrews 9:11-12). Unlike the Israelites’ annual sacrifices on Yom Kippur, Jesus’ one sacrifice continues to provide atonement to this day. Yom Kippur, for followers of Jesus, reminds us of the certainty of our redemption through the blood of our Messiah and High Priest, Jesus.

Salvation of the Jewish People

Yom Kippur also reminds us of the ultimate salvation of the Jewish people. The prophet Zechariah spoke of a day when the nation of Israel will recognize her Messiah, and “they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son” (Zechariah 12:10). When the Jewish people recognize Messiah, as Paul writes, “All Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:26). The Day of Atonement thus reminds us of our own salvation and also looks forward to the salvation of Israel.

As our humble group of christian students continues to grow through the ' God sent Faith Blessing ' of Reclaiming our Faith's Hebrew Roots, our excitement for the 'Treasures' being 'revealed' to us continues to grow by the second !

After experiencing the recent One New Man conference with my brother & messianic mentor Rabbi Henry ( The Great Benafuchi ) Morse of Sha'ar Hashamayim in Stoughton, MA., (a 'life/ministry changing' experience which I will post about over this weekend) , Daniah & Joe Greenberg of TLV Bible Society , Joel Chernoff the Secretary General of MJAA and the ' pioneering ' messianic band LAMB, and several other Jewish & Gentile believers, I can say with complete and convicted honesty that G_d ..........or, Adonai ! , most certainly appears to be ' Doing a New Thing !'

and, I certainly feel like One New Man !

Indeed ! we're finding out that by recalling our roots ' The Bible has become NEW again '..amen !

Indeed ! we're finding treasure after treasure with this new 'hebrew lens' , ... and it is bringing us deeper and closer to our Savior and Creator than we ever even dared to imagine !

Indeed ! we're now more clearly seeing 'WHY' this 'Jewish Jesus' said 'WHAT' He said ! ...Aha !

Indeed ! we're now much more often saying, ............... Aha !!! , ' Now I Get It ! ' or, ........

' So, if that means this, then thats why this particular prophet warned against that !,.
and if So n So said this, ... than that's why we're supposed to..... yada yada yada !

( I hope you can creatively decipher this last 'Indeed' analogy )

( I'M TRYING TO SAY THAT THINGS START TO 'CONNECT' and MAKE SENSE )

this can happen by simply understanding the Jewish context of this Jewish Book written by Jewish authors, for a very predominantly Jewish audience, about a Jewish people group and a Jewish Messiah ! ,.... who would RECONCILE the WORLD ' back ' unto Himself

when He SOON Returns to, ............................ Y-E-S !

as our Lord Yeshua so eloquently said, ....... ' FOLLOW ME '... (him)

As Gentiles or Christians, many will say we don't 'need' to celebrate these Feasts.

What I would initially make you aware of is how ' VERY' much more the celebrations themselves reveal about both ' YESHUA ' and the BIBLE MESSAGE. And how greatly the feasts reveal the very character of G_d Himself. So whether or not you personally celebrate the Lord's Feasts,

the great impact of at very least 'studying' the feasts will greatly BLESS you, and deeply Bless your further understanding of SCRIPTURAL MESSAGES as well as our Creator and Savior.

This event will be specifically dealing with the subject of understanding the fall Feast and there prophetic display. This Seminar is for Pastors their wives and leadership. The conference will be conducted by Messianic Rabbi Henry M. Morse

Henry M. Morse is an ordained Messianic Rabbi with a degree in Bible and Theology from Central Bible College in Springfield, MO. He was raised as an orthodox Jew in Mattapan. He has been in full time ministry for over thirty-seven years; serving as youth minister, evangelist, missionary and congregational leader. Henry has ministered in over twenty countries and forty-five states. Currently, Henry lives in Stoughton, MA, with his wife Cherri. He has 11 grand-kids.

Henry was ordained a Messianic Rabbi, by the congregation Kehilat She'ar Yashuv, Dec. 30, 2000. This congregation was affiliated with Chosen People Ministries. Previous to that he was credentialed with the Assemblies of God and Jews for Jesus. He left both of these ministries in good standing. He is the founding Rabbi of congregation Sha'ar Hashamayim in Stoughton MA. He has served there for 17 years

10:00 AM.       Gather for continental breakfast and introduction to the Seminar.

10:30 AM.       1st session, Rosh Hashanah (Yom Teruah) and the 2nd coming.

12:30 PM.       Lunch.

1:15 PM.         3rd session, Sukkot (Tabernacles) and the 1000-year reign of Messiah.

2:15 PM          Wrap up, Questions and answer time.

The seminar is provided free of charge to all who attend. There will, however, be a free will offering in

the form of a box placed in the corner for anyone who might feel led to help defray the cost of the

Keep 'Eyes that See' upon ISRAEL !

ISRAEL WANTS TO HELP THE PEOPLE OF GAZA

For years, Israel has maintained a strict land, sea, and air blockade on the Gaza Strip to prevent terrorist groups from smuggling in weapons or crossing into Israel to kill and destroy. The Israeli government has now, however, provided an opportunity for people from Gaza to cross the border and leave from an Israeli airport. There is even an option to be transported to southern Israeli airports. The caveat is that they must be leaving Gaza and flying to a country that will accept them as immigrants. The problem is that countries are not willing to absorb them despite Israel’s attempts to persuade them. Last year, 35,000 Palestinians were able to arrange their own transportation to other countries without Israel’s help. Israel wants to make this available to more people. Please pray for the people of Gaza, that they would find peace and safety either within their own family walls or in a new country that will allow for their safety.

MAKING THE DESERT BLOOM

In 2005, Israelis were forced to leave their homes and communities in Gush Katif in the Gaza Strip, which was part of the settlement disengagement that gave Gaza complete control of the land. Instead of being sad and angry, they decided to use their energy to build up a barren stretch of land in the Negev along the Egyptian border. Now, after fourteen years, Halutza is home to 2,000 people with projections that it will rise to 15,000 residents within a decade. There are medical and community centers, parks, top-rated schools, and synagogues. Young families wanting to flee the big cities are flocking to Halutza, with 70 percent of the population between the ages of one and eighteen, the highest percentage of this age group anywhere in Israel. David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, loved the desert and wanted to see it bloom. He would be pleased. Please pray that the gospel would be heard even in the isolated desert enclave of Halutza!

ETHIOPIAN JEWISH FAMILY LOST AND NOW FOUND

The last Jewish people who were living in South Sudan have now been reunited in Israel. They are Ethiopian Jews who were part of Operation Moses in the 1980s, when 14,000 Ethiopian Jews trekked through South Sudan from Ethiopia on their way to the coast to be transported to Israel. Many of them died on the way, were separated from their families, or went missing. One young girl had become separated from her family, ending up being jailed, sold into a forced marriage, and eventually watching her daughters forced into marriages, as well. Many years later, this woman bumped into an Israeli hiker and, together, they spent the next three months searching Sudan for the rest of her family. After endless paperwork, embassy visits, trips across the country, and lots of money, the family was recently reunited at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel. Praise God for this story of the lost being found and brought to Israel to live safely with their family. Please pray for their salvation!
